Valve Tags – Labeling Valves
It seems like such a mundane topic… valve tags. Who talks about valve tags?
Valve tags save lives. Valve tags are used to identify valves in manufacturing and industrial facilities, as well as in buildings that house restaurants, medical facilities, shops and offices. Most of the time they are ignored. A valve is either open or closed and it typically is not manually actuated. But there are times when it is critical to properly identify valves and their position.
For example, during a maintenance shutdown work on pipes may be scheduled. Before working on a pipe you must be sure it is depressurized and empty. This is accomplished by closing an upstream valve… a valve that is identified by a valve tag.
Valve tags work hand-in-hand with LOTO procedures. The tag positively identifies the calve, the LOTO lock and tag prevent the valve from being actuated.
Because they are so often ignored, having easy-to-read, durable valve tags is important. That’s what you get with DuraLabel valve tags. Labels can be applied to both sides, allowing for identifying information on one side, and–if needed–RTK information on the other.

New 2009 Arc Flash Labeling Requirements
We’re finishing up the first quarter of 2009 and most people are aware of the new arc flash labeling requirements. The new NFPA 70E code includes a new section, 130.3(C), which requires “Equipment shall be field-marked with a label containing the available incident energy or required level of PPE.”
Many facilities may have already included this information on their arc flash labels. If you’ve been using a DuraLabel printer and DuraLabel die-cut labels, you most likely already have fully compliant labels. In other cases there may be a need to review existing labels for compliance with NFPA 70E 2009 and possible replacement.
When looking at replacing arc flash labels DuraLabel printers offer options not available with other printers. For example, there are a variety of material options available, including pre-formatted die-cuts, unformatted die-cuts, two color continuous vinyl, and single color continuous vinyl. In addition, with a DuraLabel printer die-cut arc flash labels as large as 6.8″ x 10.5″ can be printed.
While you probably only need one or two of these arc flash options, the versatility of a DuraLabel printer means it can be used for a wide range of other labeling and sign making projects. This means your DuraLabel printer is used more giving you a better return on your investment. Combine this with the lower cost of DuraLabel supplies, and you get an unbeatable value! For example, when you need to do temporary labeling or signs, static cling labels may be what you need to get the job done.
Static cling labels will adhere to glass, metal and plastics. Because the are easy to remove, and leave no residue, they are excellent for temporary labeling, window signs, conventions and trade shows, windshield parking passes and more.
Static cling material is available in clear or white. It may be printed using any standard DuraLabel ribbon.
