New 2009 Requirements For Marking Exits

Posted in DuraLabel Pro Supplies, DuraLabel Supplies, Industrial Safety tagged at 6:29 am by duralabel

As a result of studies of people exiting the World Trade Centers several municipalities and states have already implemented codes that require photoluminescent markings and signs in stairwells and exit pathways. Photoluminescent has been specified because it always works, 100% of the time. No power or batteries are required.

As of January 2009 NFPA now requires photoluminescent marking of stairwells. This includes placing exit and informational signs within 18 inches of the floor, making them visible to people who are crawling.

A white paper called “Introduction to Photoluminescent Labels, Signs, and Path Marking” is available at no cost.  It provides background information about photoluminescent marking and signs, as well as information about the codes that now require photoluminescent marking, signs and labels.

Photoluminescent marking and signs glow in the dark.  These are not like children’s toys.  They use a stronger photoluminescent material that keeps the marking or sign illuminated for eight hours.  This provides needed information during emergencies and in particular when the power fails.  Unlike traditional exit signs, photoluminescent signs do not require power, making them easy to install in any location, and making them 100% reliable.

Because of the expense and time it takes to get color labels, using them extensively has not seemed possible.  But, that has changed with the new DuraLabel multicolor custom label service.  Now you can use your DuraLabel printer to make custom, multi-color labels economically, easily and quickly.

Color improves the effectiveness of communication.  The message of a label is understood quicker and more clearly when color is used.  The new color label service from DuraLabel makes it possible to use custom color labels.  Here is how it works:

Make a rough sketch showing the basic outlines of how your labels need to look.  DuraLabel will have rolls of vinyl labels made with your color format included.  You then run the rolls through your DuraLabel printer to add custom images, text and bar codes.  The result are custom color labels that you can make as they are needed… and because they are DuraLabel you get high quality and save a bundle of money.

DuraLabel is a Graphic Products brand.  Their large R&D department is continually working to develop new ways to better serve your visual communication needs with labels and signs.  That’s why you can count on your DuraLabel printer to get the job done… and to get it done right!
