Arc Flash Labels
There is a growing awareness of the dangers of arc flash. An arc flash results when dirt, a tool or any other foreign object causes a short circuit resulting in an explosive discharge of energy. The heat of an arc flash is sufficient to melt metal such that white-hot molten metal is splattered by the shock wave onto anyone who is near the arc flash. An arc flash causes serious injuries, including serious burns and sometimes death.
A critical step in preventing arc flash injuries or death is to have all potential arc flash hazards properly labeled. Arc flash labels warn of the danger and provide information about safe distances and qualifications for being near the potential source of an arc flash. They also may provide information about required PPE.
Both DuraLabel printer models are excellent for making arc flash labels. They come with arc flash database software that will track and print labels as needed. Labels can be printed using die-cut labels that are available in three languages. Or labels may be printed on single color or two-color continuous vinyl.
Be sure that workers, vendors and contractors are properly warned about arc flash dangers in your facility, by carrying out an effective arc flash labeling program.

Industrial Labelers & DuraLabel Supplies
There is a labeling web site that does not get much attention called Industrial Labeling. It features coverage of a number of industrial label printers including printers from Brady and, of course, the DuraLabel. It has not picked up on the new DuraLabel Pro yet, but it has extensive coverage of of the DuraLabel 4TTP and DuraLabel supplies.
By the way, DuraLabel 4TTP supplies and DuraLabel Pro supplies are not the same. While DuraLabel Pro supplies can be used in the 4TTP… in other words they are backward compatible, the DuraLabel 4TTP supplies can not be used in the new DuraLabel Pro. That does not mean there has been a big change in price. DuraLabel Pro supplies still save you 50% when compared with similar label printers. This makes the DuraLabel Pro an outstanding bargain when you are evaluating custom label and sign printers. If you want high power labeling, fast speeds, and economical supplies, be sure the DuraLabel Pro is on your short list.

5S Color Code Guide
5S is an approach used to reduce waste and improve productivity, quality and safety. It is not very complicated, does not need to cost a lot to implement, and 5S can have a major positive impact on a business. At its heart 5S simply involves cleaning up, getting organized and staying organized.
What is 5s? It is called 5S because it involves five steps, each of which has been named using a word that starts with the letter “S”. The five steps are:
- Sort – the first step in making things cleaned up and organized
- Set In Order – organize, identify and arrange everything in a work area
- Shine – regular cleaning and maintenance
- Standardize – make it easy to maintain – simplify and standardize
- Sustain -maintaining what has been accomplished
Included in the Standardize Step is establishing a color coding system that is used throughout your facility. There are no published color coding standards, however through common use a standard has developed. A free guide showing this 5S Standard Color Code is available.
